3D Made Real!

San Francisco artist Christina Mei Ngook Westbrook creates what she calls, “Steampunk for Everyday”… jewelry, iPhone cases and other everyday items manufactured using 3-D printer technology.

.

The medium – and Westbrook’s style – combines a Steampunk aesthetic with technology that’s about as modern – or perhaps futuristic – as one can get. 3D Printing, also known as Additive Fabrication or Rapid Prototyping, is not used by many artists yet… but it seems to be picking up steam. Christina says, “It’s an ideal balance of craft and technology… more or less it’s virtual sculpting and then the sculpture gets created by printing the shape layer by layer out of various materials. I sketch an object, model it to scale in my computer using 3D software, upload it to one of the very few websites who caters to individual artists like me and if sketching and modeling only takes a couple days I get my pieces delivered to me as real objects 2-3 weeks later in laser sintered polyamide (nylon), stainless steel or gold plated stainless steel.

.

I then add Swarovski crystals to many pieces by hand via industrial strength glue or traditional wire wrapping, hand dye what needs dying and depending on the piece put a final varnish on for extra durability”.

.

Christina makes a variety of items including jewelry, keychains, cell phone charms, hair ornaments, napkin rings and has some new designs in the works for stylized fans and pocket watches; she sells them on her Etsy site and through her website, C Westbrook Designs: 3D Made Real. Her iPhone 4 cases have started getting a bit of attention; My favorite is this lovely Victorian filigree case with a kitty in the center of it! Here’s a [review of the iPhone cases from intomobile.com].

.

Christina Westbrook will be showing and selling her 3D printed wearables and accessories in our Mezzanine-level Vendor Hall 2, in the Bayshore Room. See you there!

All the way from Hong Kong

and with new art to debut, we are pleased to welcome

“Asian Steampunk” Artist, James Ng!

.

We knew we were getting his art… but we didn’t know we’d have the artist until this week! James says he’s been working on a few new pieces that he’s looking forward to showing – you’ll see them first!

.

“The recently deceased key keeper and his pet cats had the responsibility of organizing all the keys and locks for the imperial dungeon. With the keeper gone, no one except his pets could pair the thousands of keys to their corresponding lock, but the feline family refused to go to work without their master. The Imperial Inventor, with permission from the court, reanimated the keeper’s skeleton with steam engines to keep the loyal pets satisfied until they find a better solution. The skeletal remains of the eldest cat was also reanimated to serve as a pack leader and a mobile key cutting machine.” ~ www.jamesngart.com

James was recently interviewed on Brazil’s SteamCast; (he appears at around 4 minutes in, for those of you who want to cut to the chase!) http://steamcast.com.br/steampunk-steamcast-002/#For more in-depth info, please check out our [Featured Artist Bio Page]; you can also go to James’ site to see what he’s up to and pre-order prints.

Nova Albion and An Airship Home Companion

are pleased to bring you

Veronique Chevalier – Cabaret’s “Weird Val”!

.

A Steamy Chanteuse, and Spooky Polkanista, Veronique has been described as a campy incarnation of Edith Piaf from a parallel universe – the one in which her parents are Jim Morrison, and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, and her godparents are Lucille Ball and Weird Al. She originated the genre of “Gothic Polka”, and received The Unanimous Choice Award for Best Independent Cabaret Artist by the Los Angeles Music Awards.

Veronique Chevalier

.

In addition to performing at Saturday night’s Airship Home Companion, Veronique will also be featured in our Steam After Dark programming track. She is a veteran presenter of her own series of 21st Century Vaudeville Shows (Veronique’s Red Velvet), as well as Club Chrononaut in San Diego, and has performed at Mr. Bodewell’s Cabaret, the Steampunk World’s Fair, and many other, as she would say, eSTEAMed gatherings and venues! Veronique is also executive producer of the “odditorally acclaimed” Polka Haunt Us: A Spook-tacular Compilation.

.

You can sample some of Mlle Chevalier’s fine talent on ReverbNation.
