Come trip the light fandango on the surface of Mars!
Rub elbows with Space Explorers, Scientists and the very cream of London society as you waltz, polka and schottish your way through the night. Enjoy finger sandwiches and a proper cuppa tea while you catch your breath, and then it’s back out onto the dance floor in whirling splendor to the celestial strings of Bangers and Mash!
The men of Brass Farthing will regale us all with bold songs about the finer things in life… most notably, undoubtedly, beer. The dashing Mr. Roger Rightly shall once again hold court as our Master of Ceremonies, presiding over a fantastical Steampunks in Space-themed Costume Competition, and Prizes shall be won! Cathleen and James Myers of the Period Events and Entertainments Re-Creation Society (PEERS) will be on hand to teach 19th century Victorian Dance preceding the Ball itself and to lead and call dances throughout the evening. Ans as if that isn’t enough, you will be thrilled by the scintillating Cancan Bijou and your auditory senses uplifted by Shovelman Isaac Frankle.
19th Century formal or costumed “fancy dress” attire is enthusiastically encouraged but by no means necessary for entry. Then again, you do so want to make a splash, do you not?
The evening begins with a Victorian Ballroom Dance class at 7:00pm led by James & Cathleen Myers. Ballroom Bar opens at 7:30 and festivities start at 8:00pm with High Tea and a performance by Brass Farthing (as has become our tradition), and the opening Grand March shall commence at 8:30pm.
Your Weekend Pass covers all entertainments including the Ball; Dance-only tickets will be available at the door.
